Calcutta Regains Title

University of Calcutta won the All India Inter-University Chess
Tournament that concluded at Kolkata on February 4, 2010.
Calcutta beat all four teams and drew defending champions Madras
2-2 in the final round to take the title with 14 points from 20
games.
The team event was played over four players from each side
facing four players from the other side. Four teams qualified
from the North-East zone and four teams from the South-West
Zone. Two teams from the South-West zone, Anna University and
SRM did not show up and it became a six team all-play-all.
Calcutta was represented by Joydeep Dutta (4.5/5), Shankar
Majumdar (2/5), Soumya Thakurta (5/5), Debaditya Sinha Biswas
(2.5/5).
The placings: 1 Calcutta 14, 2 Delhi 12.5, 3 V.T.U. Belgaum 12,
4 Jadavpur 9.5, 5 Madras 8.5, 6 Punjab 3.5.
