Michael Kransenkow Triumphs

In a thrilling 11th and last round of the LIC - Mumbai Mayor's International Chess Tournament, overnight sole leader, Michael Kransenow who was assured of the title with a round to spare, was not content with a draw and went for a win against his Uzebk opponent, GM Anton Fillipov of Uzbekistan. However; in a winning position he made a mistake and lost the game. This allowed Fillipov and as also players occupying the 2nd spot, GM Koneru Humpy, GM Abhijit Kunte, GM Ziaur Rahman of Bangladesh and GM Saidali Iuldachev of Uzbekistant catch up with Kransenkow by scoring the win over their respective rivals. All these players scored 9 points but, Kransenow was declared the Champion of the Tournametn as he enjoyed superior tie-break as compared the other 6 players.

The prizes were awarded by Honourable Vinod Ghedia, Deputy Mayor of Mumbai.
