Indians recorded a memorable double in the Philadelphia International that concluded at the Center City Sheraton, Philadelphia on June 30. Fifteen year old GM Parimarjan Negi of Delhi won the 43-player nine round Swiss format event with 7/9 to pocket USD 2,000.

S. Arun Prasad of Bharat Petroleum, Chennai who hails originally from Salem completed his GM requirement of 2500 Elo in this event. He had already made three norms. He finished clear second and also remained undefeated like Negi.

The fourteen Indians had a good score with seven of our players taking the top ten places. Players from five nations took part this year. This event is held prior to the more famous World Open also played at Philadelphia.

Top placings: 1 GM P. Negi 7/9, 2 IM Arun Prasad 6.5, 3-6 GM Julio J Becerra, GM G.N. Gopal, Gabriel Battaglini, WGM Eesha Karavade 6 each, 7-12 GM S.S. Ganguly, GM A. Kunte, IM K. Ratnakaran, IM Dean J Ippolito, IM Michael Mulyar, FM Bindi Cheng 5.5 each, 13-15 IM Rajaram Laxman, FM Charles Galofre, Eric Hansen 5 each, 16-18 IM M.R. Venkatesh, WGM Nisha Mohota, WGM Swati Ghate 4.5 each...43 players.
