Arkady Naiditch, the home grown grandmaster from Dortmund had the day of his life when he rocked Vladimir Kramnik's main opening preparation for the Bonn Match against Vishy Anand by defeating his Petroff's defence in round three of the Dortmund Tournament on July 1.

The Sparkassen Chess Meeting has seen the most interesting game of the 8-player all-play-all. Naiditch pinned Kramnik's king in the centre of the board and won a queen for rook and minor piece before taking his first point.

The latest win should help Vishy Anand, the Indian world champion who is preparing for his Bonn match in October and also for the Bilbao Tournament slated from early September. It appears Naiditch has made a major dent in a main opening repertoire of most.

Peter Leko of Hungary, the 1999 winner and Gusafsson of Germany are leading this Category 18 tournament with two points from three rounds. Four more rounds remain to be played.

Round three results: Shakhriyar Mamedyarov (Aze) 1.5 drew with Jan Gustafsson (Ger) 2, Arkady Naiditch (Ger) 1.5 bt Vladimir Kramnik (Rus) 1.5, Loek Van Wely (Ned) 1 drew with Peter Leko (Hun) 2, Vassily Ivanchuk (Ukr) 1 drew with Ian Nepomniachtchi (Rus) 1.5.
