Sasikiran Wins Najdorf Memorial
By Arvind Aaron
Krishnan Sasikiran of ONGC, Chennai won the Najdorf Memorial Category 15
Tournament that concluded at Warsaw on August 10. Sasikiran remained
undefeated after he drew Michal Krasenkow in the final round with the
black pieces to reach 6.5/9 and win by a one point margin.
Sasikiran is clearly gaining some Elo from this contest as he won four
games and drew five. His wins were recorded against GM Emanuel Berg (Swe),
GM Eduardas Rozentalis (Ltu), GM Robert Kempinski (Pol) and IM Michal
Olszewski (Pol). This is Sasikiran's best performance since slipping from
a great position at Sofia last May and the Doha Asian Games success in Dec
2006.
Final placings: 1 GM K. Sasikiran (Ind) 6.5/9, 2-3. GM Emanuel Berg (Swe),
GM Tomi Nyback (Fin) 5.5 each, 4-5. GM Bartosz Socko (Pol), GM Michal
Krasenkow (Pol) 5 each, 6. GM Eduardos Rozentalis (Ltu) 4, 7-9. GM
Bartlomiej Macieja (Pol), GM Csaba Balogh (Hun), GM Robert Kempinski (Pol)
3.5 each, 10 IM Michal Olszewski (Pol) 3.
